BOT

Bot is a short term for “robot” or also called “internet robot”. Bot is a computer program that is connected to the internet and is tasked with helping other users/programs, or to simulate human activities. Bots are usually used to automate repetitive tasks. Bots can operate without special instructions from humans.

Here are some examples of bots:

  1. Spam Bot is a robot whose job is to help send spam messages. Spam bots can also post spam in various places where users interact online, such as social media platforms or forums.
  2. Web Crawler, this type of bot will download and index the entire content of each web page to find out the contents of the web. This robot is widely used in search engines such as Google and Bing. To be able to find the data that is needed by search engine users, the web crawler bot will start the process of searching for data and information on the internet from known websites, then following hyperlinks from that page to other pages, following hyperlinks from that other pages to other pages, and so on.
  3. Chat Bot is a computer program designed to interact with humans in both text-based and voice-based conversations. Chatbots have various functions including personal digital assistants and customer support.
  4. Bot Traffic is traffic on the web or application that is not from humans but because of robots. Most of this kind of traffic gives a negative association because it will be difficult to detect the actual traffic from the website/application. To find out the presence of bot traffic, you can see it from suspicious bounce rate, page views, page load metrics, and avg session duration data.

Timedoor Tips:

The easiest way to avoid unrated bot activity on websites and apps is to use Captcha. The Google re-Captcha service is easy to implement. However, keep in mind that using too much captcha will be a bad experience for the user and result in the bounce rate increase.
